Biography

Luis Germán Morales was born on September 19, 1956 in a humble home in the eastern plains of Colombia.  Had the fortune to share his childhood with four brothers and three sisters, all with a remarkable penchant for the arts and crafts.

Natural artist, since the school years entertained their classmates and teachers with his drawing skills. As a young man, he never took drawing classes in part by the humble status of his family, in spite of its remarkable attitude for drawing.

At 20 years, he worked as a cartoonist in a major Barranquilla’s newspaper, La Libertad, where he published a daily cartoon of political humor on the editorial page.

In 1980 he married Giselle Torres, a beautiful young woman, graduated in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Barranquilla.  To this day they have been married for 30 years.

He worked for various advertising agencies in shorts projects, including Hertz Advertising, Tamborito Records, Moon and Sun Editorial, also participated in a collective Art Exhibition at the Universidad Autonoma del Caribe.  He worked in Dovel Printing, where he learned the secrets of printing production as he continued with his design work; he was also involved in other aspects of the production.

In 1987, he decided to immigrate to the United States, along with his wife, since that year they reside in New York.  Here, begins a stage of non artistic activity in the life of Germán. He worked in pre-press production in Tri-Star offset where he took advantage of the experience in printing, acquired in Barranquilla.

Later, comes to his life one of the biggest happiness, his only son Hector.

In New York, he takes some selected classes in animation, drawing, watercolor and work with some organizations in short projects. Thus we see drawings for: Bonny Boy Productions, Willie D Production, Flores Printing Ultra Pink Clothing and Atlantic Printing.

In 2003, he won the Ron L. Hubbard Science Fiction contest and received the Illustrator of the Future Award in Los Angeles California. In 2008, he published with his brother Alexander his first book, a combination of talents that turned out to be excellent.  The book "Colombian Legends" was well received in New York City.

Today, German is dedicated to draw on his favorite medium ink, and occasionally he paints oil and watercolors. He decided after his 50’s, to re-take his art career and follow his passion; he left his job in printing because he thinks his art is his legacy to the world, he was born to be an artist and life regardless of circumstances cannot changed that.
